My Mom's the Best!

The Secret To My Everyday Existence has got relevance to everyone, in one or the other way and Indians in particular who are more pampered by their mothers back home.

I am not aware as to how mothers treat their kids in Japan, Spain, Iran, Africa, Argentina or any other country in the world when it comes to food, (except in India) when their kids are around 25 or 30 years of age. But being an Indian and living in India, i know this particularly well as to what extent we (we=kids. Yes, to the mothers around the world, we are just kids any day any time even when we turn fifty...ha ha ha) enjoy the royal treatments that we get to experience everyday at our places, i mean at our homes.

Mother's food always rates the best. Most mothers are great cooks who have this special touch in their hands to turn any kind of food into a delicious treat. And when one has a mother who treats you every day rather than waiting for a particular occasion to turn up, then its simply a royal affair with food at home enjoying every bit of the food served in the plate. Chefs who are in demand make you wait to have their food but mothers are always ready to serve you at the word of it.

Being a regular traveller and a foodie, i get to eat food at various places across India and i would say i have enjoyed my tryst with different kinds of food in each engagement. Every place has got its speciality and my secret of enjoyment drew more by being global [attitude] and eating local [aptitude].

It happened last year and i remember this afresh of my travel to Kolkata where i stayed at my only penfriends house who is a bengali. Before visiting the place, i rang up my friend and asked if i can get to eat any bengali food in particular prepared by the great mother of that house. I was in for a surprise when i had a treat for three days completely without having any space left in my stomach for anything else. By the end of the third day i got to taste 31 new bengali dishes made by a bengali mother in a traditional cooking. I had a very good time and thanked the great mother for the great food.

Every place is special in its own way. We get to eat the same food prepared in a different way and we end up enjoying the food in a special way. I, being a vegetarian and experimental tried eating the same paneer butter masala at twelve different locations in India and found the dish to be good although a bit different from the others including the same thing prepared by my mom and my friends mom in kolkata.

And i would say one should eat Biryani, (the tradtional cuisine brought to India by the Persians) only in Hyderabad or in Lucknow (Awadh) to taste the authentic flavour at these two cities because of its historical background. In other places no one serves you the same thing as it is excpet for the above said two cities barring all the five star hotels and if you venture out to order a biryani then you should be careful as to what is served as you will end up eating khichdi mostly [a cooking of rice, pulses and vegetables together] which will have a dreadful effect on your stomach and you ending up in a heartful laugh. Hyderabadi biryani came into light from the kitchens of Nizams of Hyderabad and Lucknow (Awadhi) biryani directly hails from the kitchens of Moghal Empire. Hyderabadis always have a royal affair at most restaurants when venturing out to eat the biryani.

I enjoy eating more when my mom feeds me with her hands, literally stuffing my mouth with the food with her hands. I don't know how but my mom manages to turn any stupid vegetable into a beautiful savouring.

Yesterday I ate something i wanted to eat which was running in my mind for quite some time. I asked my mom if i could get to eat mango pickle with rice and little drops of ghee in it for my dinner. And when my mom mixed it up and fed me with her hands, it was like souring through the heavens with the best taste in the world. The brain ignored all the signals from the stomach. A kind of music flowed through the heart which soured high above the skies although with my foot firmly on the ground. The whole body swung in rhythm and entered a different world. The stomach bulged out with happiness (not food). Although this whole losing of myself happened only the time when i was eating, still thoughts kept floating all through my stomach and the body for hours on.

But the irony is that any feeling can only be experienced and cannot be explained in words. Some thoughts have no words to describe.

It is really very difficult to forget my moms food because of the kind of taste involved in it but she has also taught me to enjoy the food whatever is served in my plate. This is the secret to my everyday existence...

I may be a king in my kingdom [my home] but i am a guest everywhere else. Even at this age when i am turning 30 in august, still my mom asks me as to what i want to eat for my dinner or lunch. Call it pampering or love but my mom's the best. My friends always talk about my mom's food whenever any discussion turns up. My mom has no competitor but herself.

I owe my Mom a lot. Hail the great mother for giving herself for the happiness of her family who does everything silently.

I would say, all the mothers are superstars who don't need any publicity. Because they are the BEST.
